Bob and I used to enjoy water-skiing. Both of our families went to the lake a lot and almost everyone took a turn on the skies. It was great fun and we enjoyed it.
One day while he was skiing, Bob thought that he'd try a trick that he'd seen a friend do. This man could put the ski rope between his knees and ski for a while like that. Bob thought that this was really neat, and of course, he thought he could do it too. He got the rope between his knees and was actually doing pretty good until the boat slowed down a little and the rope developed slack in it. When the boat pulled the rope tight, Bob went head over heels one way, and the skis went in two other directions. When Bob surfaced, he had blood running down his face. One of the skis had hit him in the forehead and made a two inch wound. Of course, he didn't think he needed to go to the emergency room, but this is one of the few times he was persuaded to go, and Dr. Roston took several stitches in Bob's head.
Another time we were at the lake fishing in one of those little fishing boats you can rent from the boat dock. We were up in a little cove fishing, and weren't getting any bites, so we decided to go somewhere else. Bob was in the back of the boat running the outboard, and I was sitting in the front of the boat. Bob started yanking on the rope to start the motor and after about the 4th or 5th yank it finally started. Bob didn't realize the boat motor was in gear, and the motor wasn't supposed to be able to be started while in gear, but it did start. We (I thought) were just flying across that cove and the boat hit the bank and stopped. I thought Bob had gone way too fast and hit the bank way too hard and I turned around to tell him so but he wasn't even in the boat! When he had yanked on the rope to start it, he had gotten off balance and when the motor started it threw him overboard. He was treading water out in the middle of the cove! I had sat there riding in ignorance, and if the boat hadn't hit the bank, I'd have probably ridden a mile down the lake before I'd had enough sense to turn around.
At times like this, you realize that you really have no control over your life or the things that can happen to you. We all like to think we control our own lives, but things can happen in an instant to change our lives forever. A car wreck, a bad diagnosis, any number of things can devastate us. There IS one thing we can control, and that is to make a decision to let Jesus Christ come into our hearts, to accept Him as our Lord and Savior, and to give Him control of our lives. I am not saying that we will never have accidents, or bad things happen to us anymore, but I do know that when Jesus is in control of your life, it can make things easier to bear. When He is in control, you can give your burden to Him and He will carry it for you. He will do what is right for you. He will never forsake you. Accept Christ today and let Him help you to live the best life there is.
